Look there isn't a point, there isn't a reason. 
There is now and what you make of it.

What you make of it affects others, so if you don't take care of yourself (eating, drinking, sleeping, avoiding substance abuse) you are no good to yourself, meaning you produce no value and your mind/subconscious knows this, so it eats at you every damn day because you know that there is a little change you can make in your life (clean up your room) and it'll provide you with a goal and value. 
Start reading more, and start writing! this is how you figure out who you are as a person, and who you want to be as a person. 

Making the most out of our lives? that's a tough one, but that's the point exactly. 
Life is hard, life will kick you every chance it'll gets! But if you learn to pick up the pieces, to be afraid of the right things, this is how you will manage life. Now trust me, once you got that under control, you can start making the most out of your life, by giving others value.
