I notice some people are afraid of failing while others seem afraid of succeeding? Can someone fear both— something keeping your life mediocre?

In the type of business I am doing, it is very scary to succeed or fail.. if I succeed doing my illegal stuff, I am afraid of getting in danger, if I fail.. I am afraid of getting caught.
